Unless you have been stuck under a rock over the past year, you will no doubt have heard that old faithful Auskey is being retired and replaced with a much hipper big brother called myGovID and its twin sister Relationship Authorisaton Manager (RAM). The ATO have advised that the AUSkey and Manage ABN connections will close at 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 27 March and there will be NO extensions due to the fact the Auskey has it written into its code to no longer function past this date. The good news is that you still have time to register yourself before the clock hits zero and you are left in the dark, which is actually quite simple and quick for the most part. We have managed to get the full registration and association of entities done in under 10 minutes!
What do I need to do? First you need to make sure you are registered for myGovID. Please DO NOT confuse this with your MyGov login. They are not the same, why the ATO decided that this would be an appropriate name only they could explain! To register you need to visit here. Make sure that you have at least two of the following identification as you will need to prove who you are when registering.
A word of warning here, there have been a lot of posts on social media with practitioners and business owners registering for myGovID who have encountered errors whereby the names on their documentation do not match, either directly together or with the information contained by the ATO. If this is the case with you, you can trouble shoot here, or you may find that calling the ATO helpline 1300 287 539 (select option 2 for myGovID enquiries) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday is a better option. You will need to download the myGovID app to your smart device. At present you will need a smart device to access myGovID however there is a lot of backlash from practitioners and SMB owners who do not wish to be locked into having a smart device for this purpose. Only time will tell if the ATO provides another means of access. You can have myGovID on multiple smart devices, all you need to do is download the app and verify yourself again to log in. You will be guided through the steps to activate your login and asked to verify yourself with your identification documentation. We have encountered issues with the automated reading of these types of documents so PLEASE double check the information that is auto populated before submitting to avoid going around in circles! Once you have registered for your myGovID you will now need to associate yourself with any business entities that you will require access to via the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) If you are the principle of your firm or a business owner, you will now need to link your MyGovID with RAM. You can follow the instructions on the ATO website here. You can watch a video on how to import your Auskey Users into your RAM here. To use RAM, you will need to be using one of the following compatible browsers:
Once you have linked your myGovID with your associated businesses you are all set to manage them via the appropriate government application. Things to note Offshore Contractors/Team Members MyGovID currently at the time of writing does not support offshore workers however the ATO are working on making this available via different means of documentation verification. Access to the ATO portal outside of normal business hours At present, there is no way to restrict a team member from accessing the ATO portal or other government agencies via myGovID outside of normal business working hours. This may be an issue for some practitioners who do not wish for their team members to be at a family bbq and have the ability to access the portal and discuss this with family and friends over a beer and a snag! The ATO are working on a fix for this however they have indicated that this will not likely be available prior to March 27. If you require help setting this up for your firm please contact us and we can discuss how Clarity Street can assist you in making the unavoidable switch! Comments are closed.
