In this book review, we venture slightly away from our usual books to something, we hope, a little more interesting and personal. We are, to a great extent, the collection of our memories. We can look back and reflect upon almost all aspects of our past - our twenties, teenage years, first job, first car, first fight, first date. Sometimes we reflect with fondness, sometimes with embarrassment. We change and grow over time through a serious of triumphs and misadventures, crafting us into the person we are reading this article.
What we reflect on today, is how we are affected by those things that didn’t happen to us. Sounds like a strange thing to say doesn’t it. How could a person be affected by things that didn’t happen. Well, to be a little more specific, we question how are we affected by things that didn’t happen but should have. Running on Empty is one of the first books about Emotional Neglect: an invisible force from your past. What didn’t happen, but should have, may be affecting you profoundly to this day. It's about what didn't happen, what wasn't said, and what cannot be remembered. Do you sometimes feel as if you're just going through the motions in life? Are you good at looking and acting as if you're fine, but secretly feel lonely and disconnected? Perhaps you have a fine life and are good at your work, but somehow, it's just not enough to make you happy. If so, you are not alone. The world is full of people who have an innate sense that something is wrong with them. Who feel they live on the outside looking in but have no explanation for their feeling and no way to put it into words. Who blame themselves for not being happier. We encourage everyone to read this enlightening and revealing book, that may help you see what has not yet been seen. Best of luck in your uncovering.
